NO morals, NO respect just plain IGNORANT

Recently a advertisement was placed on GumTree (a website similar to eBay) were a man named Brett advertised that he needed hire a Midget. This is how the advertisement read “I need a Midget to kick my ex-girlfriend in the shins” the reason for this was that his girlfriend had just dumped him, and he claimed he wanted to be taken seriously. As to be expected I was sent a flood of emails asking for my response to this email.

I always think that I’m over the ignorance of some in society but then you get situations like this and once again I’m left angry and speechless at the stupidity and insensitivity of some people. This is a matter very close to my heart and this is the reason I voice my opinion when it comes to issues regarding discrimination against little people. It’s so difficult for me to understand why some people just don’t care, and judging by the wording of this advertisement this person seems to have NO morals, NO respect and is as IGNORANT as ignorant can be. And if this is the level of ignorance and disrespect he displays I can understand why he has been dumped. GumTree has since removed the add.

“During a phone interview with The Star on Thursday, Brett seemed appalled at the suggestion that his advert might be a joke.

“I clearly took it out because I want my ex-girlfriend to be kicked in the shins,” he said. “Midget revenge is the only form of revenge that works these days.”

He rejected the assertion that his actions were discriminatory towards little people. “F*** if I care,” he said. “They know they are midgets. I’m not being politically correct about this.”

He took a similar stance on violence. “Violence would be if I asked the midget to kick her hard and then set her on fire.” (Extract from life is savage .com)

Firstly BRETT let me inform you

NO WAY IS THE WORD MIDGET ACCEPTABLE. THIS TERM IT IS THE MOST DEROGATORY WORD USED SO AS FAR AS POLITICALY CORRECT IS CONSERNED YOU ARE WAY OUT OF LINE DO YOUR HOMEWORK BEFOR CLAIMIMG HOW “CORRECT” YOU ARE

This incident has since sparked a whirlwind of shock and the media has lashed out by questioning the morels of some people out there at the same time they have informed the public about the M word being a unacceptable term and how demeaning it is to those of short stature. Ironically this responce comes from the very radio station I took to the South African Human Rights Commission about the way they allowed little people to be discredited with their demeaning jokes used during a particular comic show aired on thier station.

So today I feel proud, I’m proud that all my words have not fallen on deaf ears, I’m proud that KFM and  5 FM took a stand and helped create awareness out of something that was and is so demeaning. I’m proud that for once this was not seen as “funny” because this type of incident breeds intolerance and I’m proud that for once the Media took time to notice the hurt, and discrimination it causes.
